A thoughtful cigar storage plan starts with the cigars you own. There is no single temperature and humidity pair that every maker recommends for every collection. Use a relevant maker's guidance, confirm that your cabinet can support it, and observe the collection over time.
Two useful reference points
| Reference | Temperature | Relative humidity |
|---|---|---|
| Habanos guidance for Habanos storage | 60.8–64.4°F (16–18°C) | 65–70% RH |
| Boveda's general cigar aging guidance | 65–70°F (approximately 18–21°C) | 65–69% RH |
Habanos gives the first range for its cigars and emphasizes steady temperature. Boveda gives the second range in its aging guide. These are different reference points, not specifications for a CC Humidor cabinet or a guarantee against storage problems.
Select a deliberate starting point
For a Habanos-focused collection, begin with the brand's stated range. For a mixed collection, consult the makers of your principal cigars and choose conditions that suit your storage goals. Keep a short record of your starting settings, actual readings and observations.
Do not assume that the upper end of a cabinet's adjustable humidity range is the best setting for aging. A product's operating range describes available controls; it is not a recommendation to use every possible value.
Measure the storage space, not just the display
A control panel provides a useful reference, but an independent, checked hygrometer helps you understand conditions where the cigars sit. Follow its calibration instructions and compare readings after the cabinet has settled. Avoid evaluating performance immediately after a door opening or a large change in load.
If you check multiple shelves, note the positions and keep the test conditions consistent. A sensor next to an outlet, against a wall or beside newly introduced boxes may give a different picture from one in the main storage area. Follow the cabinet manual's placement guidance.
Make changes patiently
Choose one setting change at a time and observe the trend before adjusting again. Repeatedly chasing a single reading makes it harder to distinguish a temporary event from a persistent issue. Record door openings and new additions alongside your readings.
Habanos notes that newly acquired cigars need time to acclimatize and recommends separating arrivals from existing stock. Reserve an organized area for new purchases and label acquisition dates so the collection remains easy to manage.
Do you need humidity packs in an electronic cabinet?
Do not add another humidity-control system automatically. Boveda advises against using its packs alongside other humidification products because they can counteract each other. Check the instructions for both the cabinet and the humidity product before combining them. See Boveda's compatibility guidance.
Choose a cabinet that supports your plan
Before ordering, verify the exact model's temperature range, humidity controls, room requirements and storage layout. Consider whether you need separate compartments for different collections; do not assume one cabinet provides independently controlled zones unless the product expressly specifies them.
For a practical shortlist, compare the climate controls and Spanish cedar storage in the Raching MON3800A electronic humidor and RR980 cigar aging cabinet. Both product pages list their available settings; choose a setpoint based on your collection's requirements rather than treating the full adjustment range as aging advice.
